The Fateh Sagar Lake
Although the beauty it holds is comparable to that of the natural essence, it is actually an artificial lake named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar. The lake lies in closeness with the Pichola lake and is one of the four shimmering glasses of water in the city, the other three being Udai Sagar Lake, Dhebar Lake and Pichola Lake. The lake has a total of three beautiful islands each having an established park around its boundaries. The largest of them is the Nehru Park; the one of having an impressive water-jet fountain or the Udaipur Solar Observatory.
The Nehru Park is grazed by the water boats where you can ride a motorboat and enjoy the blue waters and the serene backdrop of the green mountains ranges of the Aravallis, earning it the title of the second Kashmir in the country. Dating back to the history of the lake, the initial construction of the lake was commenced by Maharana Jai Singh, but two hundred years later, the earthen bund which formed the lake was washed away by floods.
Hence, after that, Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur took charge and constructed the Connaught Dam in 1889, on the lake in order to establish the visit of the Duke of Connaught, the son of Queen Victoria of Windsor house. After that, the lake was enlarged, and it was renamed as the Fateh Sagar Lake.
A number of restoration projects have taken place in order to preserve flora and fauna of the lake and preserving the environment. The Solar Observatory is also a thrill among tourists and is visited by many tourists who visit the lake.
