The beautiful natural location that is set amongst the spectacular greenery and snow flanked trails makes one feel at peace. It is a top destination for tourists who seek solace and respite from the hectic pace of urban life. It is just about a couple of hours drive from Lachen and serves as a place to relax for the tired tourists who want to proceed with their sightseeing tour towards the high altitude Gurudongmar and Cho Lhamu Lake. The straight rows of fir and pine trees adorn the narrow mountainous paths making them as beautiful as the locations they lead too.

There are numerous trails for the hikers and trekkers with each of them being mesmerizing albeit in a different way. Apart from the Gurudongmar Lake, Chopta Valley and Lachang, visitors make sure to drop at the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary for looking at the wonderful varieties of Rhododendron found in the area.

Entry Fee

A free permit issued by the nearest Police Check Post is required for entering the valley. The foreign nationals have to apply to the Tourism Department for the permit.

Best Time to Visit

Summers are pleasant here while the winters are extremely chilly. However, most tourists prefer to visit the Thangu Valley between November and June despite the cold as the frozen lakes hold a special attraction for the visitors. Apart from the spectacle of flowers, the annual Yak Race is an astounding sight that has the visitors eager to visit the valley in summer.
