Dilwara Temple Complex
The green Aravalli hills make an inviting backdrop for the majestic Dilwara temple complex. It is visited by the devout Jains from all over the country and is a notable center of pilgrimage. However, the tourists keen on sightseeing, are more excited about the exquisite stonework created by chiselling the hard marble rock. The delicate designs look similar to lace and are a source of amazement for the visitors. Every part of the temples from the roof to walls and the pillars are carved with beautiful patterns that make the visit totally worthwhile.
Surprisingly, there is no indication of the magnificence externally. The outside of the complex looks plain and austere. It is believed to have been a deliberate act to thwart the advances of enemies keen on plundering the temples.
Each of the 5 temples is named differently with Vimal Vasahi temple dedicated to Lord Adinath, the Luna Vasahi temple to Lord Rishabhdeo, Pittalhar temple to Lord Neminath, while Parshvanatha and Mahavir Swami Temple happen to be dedicated to the Lords Mahavir Swami and Parshvanath. The artistic wealth inside the temples that sports a bare and severely unadorned look externally is also the hallmark of Jainism where austerity is much appreciated.
From dawn to dusk for practicing Jainism and 12PM to 6PM for others
There is no fee for entering the temples. Photography inside the temples is strictly prohibited
