Khardung La

La means pass in Tibetan. Khardung Pass is a mountain pass in the Ladakh region. This pass is the gateways to Shyok and Nubra Valley, which is situated at an altitude of 18,379 ft. above the sea level. It makes one feel on the top of the world. At times it is cited as a highest vehicle access pass in the world, however it’s not confirmed yet. The beautiful view on the way to the pass, makes it worth experiencing once. You will experience the magnificent snow caped mountains all around and cool refreshing fresh air touching your face and giving you the soothing feeling.

There are four stops Leh – Phyang – South Pullu – Khardung La, between Leh and Khardung La.


Khardung La is 39 km from Leh by road.


Altitude sickness is common and serious health concern for people travelling to high altitudes and to the people who are not used to high altitudes. There are no emergency medical facilities to treat altitude sickness, soto keep the Prophylactic altitude-sickness medication such as acetazolamide is necessary.

Also, carry energy bars, drink lot of waters and keep on eating light foods on proper intervals.
