Kargil War Memorial

Kargil War Memorial is a must visit destination in Kargil which evokes the feeling of patriotism and nationalism. A symbol of courage, dedication and love of a soldier for his country, built by Indian Army. Located in Dras, 5 km from the city center across the Tiger Hill.

It’s a memorial built in memory of the soldiers who were martyred during the 1999 conflict between India and Pakistan, the memorial has sandstone with the name of all the soldiers who died in war. Also, try to hire a guide who will guide you to the memorial and tell you the stories of the peaks Pakistan tried to capture, which is clearly visible from the memorial.


The best way is to take taxi from Drass to Kargil, it is located quite close to the Drass War Memorial, on the main highway connecting Leh and Srinagar.

Best Time to Visit

The memorial is open only during summer season between July and September, for rest of the year it remains closed because of the heavy snow fall.
