You will notice the signs that will direct you to this sanctuary while roaming around the Leh main market. It is situated just off the road leading to Khardungla Pass. It will take 5 to 10mins stroll from the main road to the sanctuary but the amazing surprise that awaits you is worth the efforts.
The most unique preservation projects founded by South African photojournalist Joanne Lefson, which was opened for public on 2008. It is basically a shelter for mistreated and abandoned donkeys. A haven for those donkeys who have been abandoned by their owners as they are not capable of any work now because of their disabilities or old age.
Here they not only get the food and medical care, but they live a safe life here. Protected from the street dogs. One can visit this amazing sanctuary throughout the day. The donations and juicy carrots are appreciated.
You will find the Friendly signs to guide your way to the sanctuary, it’s just a 10 to 15 Mins walk from main Leh Market.
There is no entry fee.
