Dance plays an important role in their culture, specially the mask dance. These dances basically depict the fight between good and evil which ends with the victory of good over evil.
They celebrate many festivals but the most famous is Hemis festival which is celebrated in June to celebrate the birth of Guru Padmasambhava.
In Leh during full moon between May and June, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir organizes Sindhu Darshan festival and in September Jammu and Kashmir tourism organize Ladhak Festival.
Culture and Food of Ladakh
The food and dress in Ladakh are influenced by Tibetan culture. The most famous food, the noodle soup which is known as thukpa. It’s worth trying, although this dish is now available in other hill stations too, but the originality of this food can’t be missed here.
The tea is most common stress buster, pain relief for Indians. But the gurgur cha has a different and refreshing flavor. It is made of tea leaves, salt, yak butter and salt. Ladakh has rich culture, where both women and men enjoy the equality and woman enjoy a high status as compared to the other villages in India. They both weave the famous costumes which includes the embroidered waistcoats, boots, hats etc.

How to Reach Leh Ladakh
By Air– The most comfortable way to reach Ladakh, although the change in flights are common due to the unpredictable weather conditions. Closest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, and flights are available from major cities like Delhi, Jammu, Srinagar and Chandigarh.
By Rail– If someone prefers to travel by train, then the nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi, located at almost 700 Km from Ladakh which is well connected to the major cities. From Jammu, the private vehicle can be arranged for travelling to Ladakh.
By Road– The thrilling and adventurous trip on bike is most common among the Passionate travelers. Another adventurous way to travel is by jeep, most common for people travelling in groups with family and friends.
There are two common routes to Ladakh, one is from Srinagar to Leh and another one is from Manali to Leh. Srinagar Leh Highway remains open for six months starting from late June till early October, this is lesser used route to reach Leh. Distance between Srinagar to Leh is 434 Km.
Manali Leh Highway most preferred route, not just because it is convenient but also because of the scenic beauty and the sightseeing opportunity it provides. It remains open for 5 Months in a year but the best time to travel is between July to Sep. Distance between Manali to Leh is 473 Km.
By Bus- Bus rides are also available from both the routes but the bus ride is quite hectic. If you can handle the bumpy bus ride than there is a direct bus service from Delhi too. Distance between Delhi to Leh is 1047 Km.
