The Yumthang Valley

The Yumthang Valley also known as the Sikkim Valley of Flowers Sanctuary is a bewitching nature sanctuary with all its luring effervescence like the rivers, hot springs, yaks and beautiful grazing pastures bordering the rolling meadows encompassed by the snow-crested Himalayan mountains. The valley has a high elevation of 3564 meters and is located at a mere distance of 150 km from the capital city of Sikkim; Gangtok. Known as the Valley of flowers, it is an eternal home of the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary famous for the abode to the twenty-four species of the Rhododendron also the state flower of Sikkim, flourishes itself in this beautiful valley.

You can relish into the pristine waters of the tributary of River Teesta that flows past this valley grazing through Lachung. Although you might want to forbid your visit in the winter months between December and March as the town is covered with snow. Other attractions around the valley include a hot spring in the valley.  As far as accommodation is considered, there is a forest rest house as the only permanent residents in the valley. You can lure in the valley with its epitome of peace. Adventure activities include the skiing in the valley.

Timings

The place is open from 8:00 A.M. in the morning to 5:00 P.M. every day.

Entry Fee

There are no entry fees charged to enter the valley.

How To Reach

The nearest rail track to the city of Pelling is the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station situated at a distance of 216.5 km and takes around 7 hours and 23 minutes to reach the valley. The nearest airport is the Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri.
