The Fort, made with yellow sandstone is a splendid sight to behold and stands at the height of 440 meters. The tourists are enchanted to go up via the twisted paths to the public square at the very top known as the Dusshera Chowk. The entire city can be viewed from here and makes a beautiful picture in brilliant yellow due to the sandstone constructions throughout Jaisalmer.
Built atop the Trikuta Hills by Rao Jaiswal, the Bhatti Rajput ruler in 1156 AD. The sunset is mesmerising from the Fort as it turns the entire city with a golden hue. The noted Indian Director Satyajit filmed a Bengali movie at this location and named the fort as Sonar Quila (Golden Fort) that describes the citadel perfectly. Historians have been fascinated by the architecture of the place that stands tall and habitable almost 900 years later.
