The Amer Fort
One of the most bewitching tourist destinations of the city, the surrounding town of Amer is known to be constructed by the Meena’s but was then ruled by Raja Man Singh I from 1550 to 1614 of the later dates. The architecture of the Amer Fort reflects the intricate Hindu Style. The fort lies in the proximity of the Maota Lake which is the only or the primary source of water for the Amer Palace. The fort is engineered out of red sandstone and marble and raises its opulent level to four levels each exhibiting a courtyard. Such four levels consist of Diwan I Aam or the hall of public audience, Diwan I Khaas or the hall for a private audience, Sheesha Mahal or the mirror palace along with the Jai Mandir and the Sukh Niwas or the relaxing room where a cooling atmosphere is created by the winds that blow over the water cascades.
Also known as the Amber Palace or Amber Fort, it was a permanent resident of the Rajput Maharajas and their families. The initial fort was founded by Raja Alan Singh, a ruler of the Chanda clan of Meenas. The intricate carvings, the lavish ceilings of the courtyard and the view of the pristine waters of the lake from the fort windows will explain to you the true royal heritage and culture of our country. Hence it is correctly referred to as the fort with formidable high walls. It has even served as a filming location for many historical biopics of the Indian cinema.
