The temple of Bhagsunag is at a distance of 3 km from Mcleodganj and is an ancient temple believed to have been constructed by the local King Bhagsu. The peace and tranquility draws many visitors to the serene location that is flanked by a couple of pools. Most of the tourists take a dip in the holy pools believed to have healing powers. The surroundings are spectacular with lush greenery and the mountain ranges visible at a distance. As with many religious places, the Bhagsunag or Bhagsunath temple has a number of small shacks and roadside eateries to cater to the visitors. However, the temple is not the only reason to visit the Bhagsu Village, the tourists walk for half a km to the Bhagsu Falls situated at a height of 7000 m above the sea level. The grandeur of the enormous amount of water cascading down the mountainous range makes a thrilling picture. Both nature lovers and photographers are in for a treat at this place where most tourists combine the visit to the temple and the waterfall in order to minimize their sightseeing time. A number of people can be found bathing in the freezing waters as well but it is important to remember the temperature and take adequate precautions before trying it.
7 AM to 6 PM is considered to be the appropriate time for visiting both the temple and the waterfall. Summer is the best season to visit this place, however.
It is a public place with no applicable fees.
Worshipping at the temple and taking a dip in the adjoining pool are for the religious minded while the others enjoy walking up the spectacular path that is resplendent with pine trees and wild flowers along with hundreds of birds. Photography is a must do activity here while trying to view the beautiful waterfall from the top is definitely worth it. However, taking pictures is restricted within the temple, it is best to leave the camera outside when worshipping.
