Places To Visit In Chitrakoot

1. Kamadgiri

 Kamadgiri

This place is referred to be the original Chitrakuta and has a high religious significance in the town.The place got its name from Lord Rama who is also referred to as Kamadnathji which simplifies to fulfiller of wishes. There is a 5 km Parikrama Path encircling the Kamadgiri Mountain where devotees walk barefooted to attain moksha.

2. Hanuman Dhara

Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the place is situated at a very high steep rock face about hundred feet up from where a stream of water flows upon the Lord releasing in the form of a kund. Legend says that the stream flows at the same place where Lord Rama appeased Hanuman after setting Lanka on fire.A number of langoors are also found along this place.

Grazing the ruins of the Chandel Fort; Marpha is a waterfall famous for its scenic natural beauty and sprawling temples. The view of the entire place is highly revering and bewitching luring you into some favourite tourist activities like adventure sports, picnic and what not.

4. The Ramghat

The Ramghat

Some small ghats encircle the Mandakini River on which Chitrakoot is built. All these ghats together come to be known as the Ramghat. Legend says that Lord Rama, Lord Lakshman and Goddess Sita used to take a bath in this ghat during their exile periods.

5. The Spathik Shila

The Spathik Shila

Translating it means to ‘a crystal rock’; the Spathik Shila is said to be a place where there are two massive rocks pertaining to the footprints of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. It is located in between a dense forestry region very close to the Janaki Kund bordering the banks of the River Mandakini.

6. Janaki Kund

Flourishing across the banks of River Mandakini; Janaki Kund is a religious and spiritual place dedicated to Goddess Sita. Legend says that Janaki Kund was the place where the Goddess used to take a bath during her exile period of 11 years.

7. Gupt Godavari

Located at a mere distance of 18 km from the town; the Gupt Godavari Caves are composed of a very tiny and narrow alley of the entrance from which it is challenging to pass by and another long and narrow way which has a stream o waters running through its base.

8. The Ganesh Bagh

Built in the 19th century, the Ganesh Bagh is located around 10 km away from the town.The major attraction of the bagh is the temple within its premises decorated with intricate interiors all relating to the art, style and architecture of Khajuraho.

The place owns its prominence into being the supreme of all the holy places in the country. Radha Kund is a town that has a Nagar panchayat in Mathura and is considered to be highly pure and sacred by the Hindus.

Located at an impressive distance of 88 km from the hub of the city Chitrakoot; is the fortress of power and history called the Kalinjar fort.The fort now in certain ruins has an innumerable amount of temples inside their premise which is an essential place for Hindu devotees to visit.

11. The Bharat Kup

The Bharat Kup

Located in the Bharatpur village of Chitrakoot are the Bharat Kup pond and the Bharat Kup Temple located a few kilometres from the town. Legend has it that the place was used by Lord Rama’s brother Bharat who used to keep all the holy waters from all the sacred places around the country.
